Saturday, December 22, 2007 Cepca to have new champ
THE Cebu Executives and Professional Chess Association (Cepca) will be having a new champion this year after the two-time defending champion was disqualified from the grand finals.
Dante Arguelles, the defending 2005 and 2006 champion, was not able to join any of the monthly Cepca tournament this year and was disqualified from the finals.
Arguelles told Sun.Star Cebu that though he can not join this year’s grand finals, he will be present at the tournament today and he might join the non-qualifiers side.
“I cannot participate in the tournament since I didn’t join in any Cepca monthly tournament because I was very busy this year,”
Arguelles, however, pledged that he will be back in next year’s edition of the Cepca tournament.
The monthly winners of the Cepca tournament will be battling it out at 3 p.m today at the house of Sun.Star sports columnist Francis “Boy” Pestaño to determine who will be crowned in this year’s tournament.
Cepca will also be having a side event for the losers or for the non-qualifiers and the grand finals for the kiddies and juniors division. (NSM)
