Monday, December 24, 2007 Speak Out: ABC elections By Nerissa Duhaylungsod Guizo, Mandaue City
IN PINOY politics, it is always who is going to win. And when one is in politics, he has to knock out the enemy. How can you govern and serve the people if you are a loser?
Candidates for ABC president are mobilizing and putting into battle all kinds of issues—ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous.
We have two aspirants who are claiming to be in the best position to give Mandaue City the leadership it has long dreaming of.
Protagonists:
- Jovita “Joy” Ouano, ABC president and Opao barangay captain who is on her last term was elected barangay captain.
- Glenn Bercede, barangay captain of Banilad for three terms before he served as city councilor from 1998 until 2007. Defeated vice mayoralty candidate, Bercede was again elected barangay captain of Banilad.
Dirty politics and corruption have seeped down to the barangay level. We should elect officials based on their sincerity to serve, good credentials, honesty and track record of being a good leader.
