Promoter clueless about Glen Donaire’s fight vs. Mexican

BOXING promoter Ga-ry Shaw apparently was clueless about the fight of Glenn Donaire, brother of reigning International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization flyweight champion Nonito Donaire, and Mexican Tirso Gutierrez Morales at the Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas supposedly set last Dec. 20, but was called off.

Rumors flew in the Philboxing forum that Shaw called off the Donaire fight because it was under a Top Rank fight card. According to philboxing.com when Shaw was asked about this rumor via e-mail, he said he had nothing to do with it and he had no idea about it.

“I had no idea. It didn’t go through me,” said Shaw in a report posted at philboxing.com. “More lies, untruths, rumors, speculation. Never knew anything about fighting for Top Rank. He can fight anywhere, anytime, any place for anyone. That is my statement. You can quote me and I stand by my word,” the promoter added.

Nonito Donaire Sr. told philboxing.com that his son was in tremendous shape for his supposed fight with Morales and added that Glenn trained hard for almost a year.

Glenn’s last fight ended with a sixth round TKO loss to former IBF/IBO flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan last October 2006, which was then avenged by his brother Nonito last July.

Both boxers had a long rest from boxing since both their last fights were in 2006. Both boxers came off from KO losses in their last fight. Morales was clobbered to the canvass by Juanito Hernandez in the first round.

The more experienced Donaire has a record of 16 wins three losses and one draw while Morales has 10 wins and 3 losses. (EKA)
