Sunday, December 30, 2007 Scrabble tourney set for Jan.; still no venue
THE Cebuanos ended the year in scrabble event with a high note after Cebu’s own and University of the Visayas’ prize word wizard Teodoro Martus Jr. took home the grand title of the recently concluded grand finals of the Philippine Open Scrabble at SM Mega Mall last Friday.
Scrabble enthusiasts will also start the year with a high spirit to begin the New Year with a big event when the Sinulog Open Scrabble Tournament will open before the end of January.
Open to all
Tournament director Roger Abella yesterday told Sun.Star Cebu that there is no definite schedule and venue for the tournament yet but it will be held before or after the week-long Sinulog festivities to avoid conflict in schedule.
Abella said the tournament is open to all, rated or non-rated scrabble players. He expects about 70 to 80 participants.
The registration of the tournament, which is sanction by the National Scrabble Association of the Philippines, will be announced later, said Abella.
Cash prizes are at stake with medals and trophies for winners while certificates of participation will also be given to all participants. (NSM)
