Tuesday, January 08, 2008 200 town workers appeal for release of bonus
AT LEAST 279 employees of the Municipality of Compostela appealed to the Municipal Council to give them their incentives, which they were supposed to receive last month yet.
Ranulfo Ligan, president of the Workers’ Association of Compostela said that as early as 8 a.m. yesterday, job-order employees, barangay health workers, day care workers, barangay animal health aides and fish wardens gathered at the town’s legislative building.
The council held its regular session at 9 a.m. yesterday. The group hoped the council would pass the supplemental budget containing their incentives.
Ligan said each of the workers will receive incentives ranging from P500 to P4,000.

“Mao ra gyud unta among gipangayo nga maluoy lang unta sila sa atong mga empleyado ug makonsensya pud unta sila (We just hope they take pity on the workers),” Ligan said.
Ten representatives of the employees association were allowed inside the session hall and were given a chance to voice out they appeal before the councilors.
“We are happy that we were given a chance to air out our sentiments during the session,” Ligan said.
Ligan said the councilors told them they were not able to approve the budget because they had not received the workers’ payroll.
The council was given a copy of the payroll yesterday and the workers hope the budget will be approved within the month.
The discussion lasted until around 10 a.m.
Ligan said they gathered peacefully yesterday and that work at the Municipal Hall was not disrupted because most of the casual and regular employees did not join them. (MBG)
