4 firms on Salinas Drive warned vs. violation of zoning ordinance

AT least four Salinas Drive, Barangay Lahug establishments were given until Jan. 29 by the Cebu City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) to explain why they do not have the required parking spaces.

Officials warn that failure to comply will mean revocation of their business, building, and occupancy permits as well as other clearances from the City.

City Planning and Development Officer Paul Villarete said Gooda Good, Dhara Tapsilogan, and AA Barbecue converted their respective parking spaces into dining areas.

The attention of Salinas Grill management was also called on why a car wash service is now being offered in the restaurant’s parking area.

Required slots

The establishments were cited for violating Section 16, Article V of City Ordinance No. 1656 or the City Zoning Ordinance.

The ordinance provides that the number of car parking slots for land development classified under high growth commercial zones such as retail stores and fast food centers should be at least 1.50 parking slots for every 100-square meter of gross floor area.

“Also submit the site development plans of your establishment for further evaluation and assessment,” Villarete said in the notice of evaluation he sent to the establishments.

Warning

“Should you fail to comply… pending resolution of your violation subject to the penalties set forth by law, you are hereby directed to temporarily refrain from continuing your business operations without the necessary parking space requirement,” he said.

In October last year, the CPDO warned that establishments that do not comply with parking requirements stand to lose their occupancy permits.

An occupancy permit is issued when an establishment has secured a business permit, which is released after a locational clearance has been given by the CPDO.

Businesses along Salinas Drive in Barangay Lahug were particularly mentioned as lacking in parking spaces.

No distinction

Mayor Tomas Osmeña that time specifically cited a fast-food chain’s Lahug branch and vowed to close it down.

The branch occupied what used to be a seafood restaurant in JY Square in Lahug.

That time, the mayor said the City will not make any distinction and run after all establishments concerned.

Early last year, the City also issued closure orders on Yo Latino and Brescia for lack of parking spaces.

The two establishments, just tenants of the building, used to have a parking space until the owner of the lot and buildings built new structures.

Yo Latino eventually closed shop while Brescia remains in operation. (RHM)
