Capitol not stopping Leo from commenting v. CICC
CEBU Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia will not stop broadcaster and critic Leo Lastimosa from making commentaries against the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), lest he lose his livelihood.
However, Capitol Consultant Rory Jon Sepulveda, speaking for the governor, warned Lastimosa against going beyond the law, morality and ethics.
“Padayon lang siya kay mao man iyang trabaho. Ang amo lang, wala man gyud niya undangi ang gobernado, tao pud ni siya. Aduna pud ni siyay dungog, dili lang isip gobernador, dili lang isip Cebuana, isip babaye kung dili isip lola naman gani,” Sepulveda told reporters in a press conference yesterday. (Let him continue. It’s his job. He has been unrelenting against the governor. She’s also a person. She has dignity not only as a governor or a Cebuana but also as a woman, as a grandmother.)
The consultant said the governor is wary about what her friends, children and grandchildren would think. Worse, she is worried that her grandchildren would be teased about it.
“We’re not asking him to stop but the moment that we feel that he has touched outside the boundaries not only of the law but also of morality and ethics, we will file the appropriate action,” said Sepulveda.
“Dili man mi pareho sa uban nga hulgaon, pusilon (We’re not like others who threaten and shoot people). We will always seek the intervention of our judicial system,” he continued.
Lastimosa and Garcia’s word war started when the broadcaster questioned spending on the CICC.
Garcia’s camp said he should have attended the media presentation of expenses on the building of the CICC last May.
Lastimosa, however, asserted that only estimates were presented that time and not real accounting. Bidding documents, he said, were not even available.
Capitol had invited Lastimosa to a personal accounting on the expenses but the latter declined, saying the people are the ones who need to see the accounting, not he. Lastimosa also said he will not stop talking about the CICC.
Sepulveda, for his part, said he will not stop answering issues that Lastimosa will raise. (JGA)
