DOJ names Sanchez as City of Naga prosecutor

JUSTICE Secretary Raul Gonzalez has appointed Cebu City Assistant Prosecutor Aida Sanchez as OIC prosecutor of the City of Naga.

The appointment ended confusion as to who between Sanchez and Assistant Prosecutor Napoleon Alburo holds the position.

In an order dated Jan. 3, Gonzalez said that he is retaining Sanchez to the position in the interest of the service.

“This order supersedes other orders, inconsistent herewith and takes effect immediately and shall remain in force until further orders,” read the order.

In an order dated Sept. 13, then acting DOJ secretary Agnes Devanadera appointed Sanchez as city prosecutor. Sanchez received the order only last Dec. 11.

However, in another order dated Dec. 10, Gonzalez designated Alburo to the position.

This prompted Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas (Cebu, first district) to request for the retention of Sanchez.

Provincial Prosecutor Pepita Jane Petralba brought the letter of Gullas to the attention of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Sanchez was the prosecutor who recommended for the filing of a case for oral defamation against former Integrated Bar of the Philippines Cebu City chapter president Alex Tolentino. (KNT)
