Mini-bus rams island; 17 hurt

SEVENTEEN people were injured when a Cebu City-bound minibus rammed into a center island after its brakes failed while traveling along N. Bacalso Ave. past 8 a.m. yesterday.

The Mark minibus driven by Victoriano Llanto came from Carcar City, Cebu when the incident occurred near the Cebu Citilink Terminal.

Before crashing into the island, the minibus hit a taxicab driven by Arcabal Hernande causing damage to the vehicle. The center island was also damaged.

All 17 passengers were taken to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for treatment.

No one was reported to have been seriously hurt in the incident.

Traffic enforcer Joselito Balbuena, in a report over CCTN News, said Llanto tried to evade colliding with the other vehicles after learning that the minibus lost its brakes and in process rammed the island.

Llanto will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries. (JST)
