Gorres in best shape for next bout

Z “The Dream” Gorres is peaking nicely and is in his best shape in time for his Feb. 2 against Vic “The Raging Bull” Darchinyan on Feb. 2 in Cebu City.

“The Dream” is in top shape and has no problem with his training. He runs laps at 5:30 in the morning at almost anywhere in Cebu City including jogging uphill in Busay and Ma. Luisa. He works out with and spars every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to improve his speed and agility,” Gorres’ handler, Michael Aldeguer, told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

Aldeguer said they are in target to hold 100 rounds of sparring for the bout against Darchinyan, who will be facing his third straight Pinoy foe after losing his International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) titles to Nonito Donaire last year.

Michael Aldeguer told Sun. Star Gorres is sparring with fellow Ala Gym boxer AJ “Bazooka” Banal and has sparred more than 70 rounds since he started his training in October last year.

“Gorres is at his best shape ever. He is more fit now than when he fought Mexican fighter Fernando Montiel,” said Aldeguer.

Gorres (27-2-1, 15 KOs) fought and lost the WBO super flyweight title to Montiel last year.

Aldeguer said Darchinyan (29-1, 23 KOs) is a tough fighter to beat because he has heavy hands and he is a top class fighter in the 112-pound.

However, Aldeguer believes Gorres has the speed and finesse to beat him and that that fighting in front of his hometown crowd will be a factor for a win and that Gorres has the advantage. (EKA)
