Mayor gives Gil Garcia vendors a break from Citom until Jan. 20

CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has rejected Executive Director Arnel C. Tancinco’s proposal to demolish vendors’ stalls in the Larsian area.

Tancinco pointed out in his letter that the area is located at the exit of Don Gil Garcia St., the area that the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) wants to clear to make an unobstructed exit toward the rotunda and other nearby streets.

He also requested for permission to allow the Squatters’ Prevention, Encroachment Elimination Division (Speed) and Citom to remove any structure or fixture installed along the area.

The rejection of Tancinco’s letter gives way to the request of the vendors’ leader, Lito Tampus, who earlier asked for the vendors to be allowed to sell their wares from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m.

However, Osmeña stated conditions before the vendors can sell in the area.

The vendors must set up only one line of tables and the area must be kept clear before 9:30 p.m. and after 3 a.m. Also, the permission is valid until Jan. 20 only. (Lyra Fe Q. Serafin, La Salle Ozamiz City Intern)
