Friday, January 11, 2008 Radaza asks barangays, schools to help fight dengue
LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Arturo Radaza asked officials of the barangay and the Department of Education (DepEd) yesterday to help in suppressing dengue cases because the task can not be done alone by City Health personnel.
It is likely also that the City will allot more funds for information campaign on how to avoid being contracted by dengue and its symptoms so relatives of would be victims will be guided on what to do.
“I don’t want more victims by acting too late,” the mayor said, adding that he had ordered a meeting between City Health Officials and members of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) to agree on a joint effort.
The City Council, on the other hand, approved en masse the resolution asking City Health Officer Rodulfo Berame to update his data on victims of dengue in Lapu-Lapu.
Inspection
The resolution co-authored by Councilors Junard Chan, Eduardo Cuizon and Rodulfo Potot asked that private clinics in the City and the hospitals in neighboring cities of Mandaue and Cebu be also inspected for any Oponganon patient of dengue.
Last Dec. 22 two children, age 17 and 8, died of dengue fever at the Mactan Community Hospital. The following day a two-year-old baby also succumbed to the illness at his home in Sitio Humay-Humay, Barangay Gun-ob.
Chan’s 8-year-old son spent more than a week at a private hospital in Cebu City also because of dengue.
These happened despite the P3.5 million that the City had released upon the request of Berame in August last year to buy 1,000 liters of DNAMaxx+2, a chemical that could effectively kill larvae and adult mosquitoes.
“With us all doing the campaign we will be able to save many lives and bring down the cases of dengue,” Radaza said. (AIV)
