Friday, January 11, 2008 Aspac seeks to arrest Bibbo’s win streak
DANAO City will be treated to a down-the-wire action as the Reinforced Partners Cup shifts venue to the Danao City Civic Center tonight.
The curtain raiser at 6:30 p.m. pits two teams which are trying to push themselves out of the hellhole, while the night cap features the two teams, fighting for the solo leadership.
Up for the 6:30 p.m. battle are R. Lapid’s Chicharon-University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Unilab/Alaxan-Don Bosco College.
R. Lapid’s and Unilab Alaxan are both sporting 1-4 win-loss records and are currently at the bottom of the competition’s five-team pack. Defeating one team tonight will improve the slate of the other.
R. Lapid’s Chicharon eyes vengeance on Unilab/Alaxan, after the USPF squad of coach Raul Latonio suffered a beating from the latter in their first encounter during the first round of action.
R.Lapid-USPF’s Elvis Laba–res and Dennis Tabada, who constantly leads in the offensive, need to up their game further tonight in order for the team to exact revenge and improve its slate.
Meanwhile, DBC coach Rudy Enterina will be banking on Lester Sunga and Jeford Aldave, two of his best gunners, to keep the team’s dominance over USPF.
Battle
On the other hand, a cutthroat battle is expected in the main offering, which features league-leader Bibbo Hotdog University of San Jose Recoletos and current runner for the top spot, Aspac Bank-University of Cebu.
Aspac, which currently holds a 4-1 win-loss record, hopes to end Bibbo Hotdog’s five-game winning streak. If Aspac win tonight, it could put the team at the top with Bibbo.
In their last outing, Aspac Bank put up a disappointing performance. What was expected to be an exciting match turned to be a flop as Aspac failed to give up a fight and was easily clobbered by Bibbo Hotdog, 112-110, the last time. It will not be the case tonight as Aspac is looking for payback.
Aspac will be relying mostly on its mammoth center Junmar Fajardo, who has showed excellent performance in the entire league, and consistently scores above 20 points.
Assistance
Expected to provide assistance are Allain Abellanosa, who dictated the team’s tempo in their game against Cebu Institute of Technology with import Kane Abatayo and Jonathan Canceran.
Bibbo hopes to maintain the winning run and expected to carry the scoring cudgels for Bibbo is Jabe Delfino, who proved to be a revelation to the USJ-R squad.
Delfino led Bibbo’s scoring in its latest game against Unilab/Alaxan with a whooping 27 markers, relegating regular hotshots Lyndon Gudez and Luther Justiniani to supporting roles. (MCB)
