Sugbo Marathon to start at Ayala Biz Park

WITH the big turnout of participants, the Sugbo Marathon 21K Tri-City will start from Sumilon Road in Ayala Park instead of the Asiatown IT Park.

Race director Raymund Silot of the Cebu Road Runners Club yesterday told Sun.Star Cebu that they have decided last Wednesday afternoon to change the venue after Asiatown IT Park administrator Raul Manangkil told them their area could not accommodate the number of runners.

Since the parking area is so small and is mostly occupied by the office workers’ cars, the park administrators could not allow it to be closed to accommodate runners. The Sumilon Road, on the other hand, can accommodate a larger number of participants.

The organizers had to negotiate with the park administrators first, and thus the late announcement.

However, he said, they have already told the participating teams and individuals on the change of venue.

CRRC members are deployed at the IT Park if some participants missed the announcement. They will be ferried by TIM Transport’s tourist buses to the race’s new starting point.

At least 1,200 runners are already in the list, Silot said.

Aside from the running clubs of Doctors Yong Larrazabal and Peter Mancao, the Regional Training School lead by Capt. Ramon Landingin, Fri-Food Corporation with owner Roy Yap, Taiyu Yuden runners, MEPZ and runners from the 20 teams composed of 10 members, are all set to run today.

The 21K runners will start the race at 5 a.m. while the 6K and 3K runners will follow at 6 a.m., he said. (NSM)
