Wednesday, January 16, 2008 Talk back: Sinulog celebration in Guam By Tim oftana
(THE letter is addressed to Sun.Star columnist Nini Cabaero)
Thank you for the information in your article regarding the use of the Sinulog name.
I would like to add that we, Cebuanos in Guam, have been celebrating the Sinulog since 1985 under the leadership of Mario Suson.
Since 2000 when Ricardo Cardinal Vidal visited Guam, our Santo Niño fiesta celebration every second Sunday of January is no longer limited to the Sinulog but includes the Ati-atihan and Dinagyang.
What used to be a separate fiesta and venue for the feasts of the Santo Niño of Aklan, Cebu, and Iloilo is now a one unified celebration that includes Capiz and Leyte-Samar.
This year, we have invited Bishop Emilio Bataclan of Carcar, Cebu to our celebration, after which we will join the Sinulog in Cebu together with the Lieutenant Governor of Guam, Dr. Michael Cruz and Guam Archbishop Anthony Apuron.
