Better 21K Sugbo next time

THE Cebu Road Runners Club hopes to rectify lapses in the race organization.

Its president Rodrigo Potestas said they will meet weeks from now to discuss the 21K Sugbo Marathon last Sunday.

The name of one of the winners was unidentified.

Potestas said he will suggest during the planned meeting that the organizers must disallow the changing of categories at the eleventh hour to avoid confusion, which was what happened last Sunday.

He said they will also evaluate the results of the run and plan ways to improve the race in its next staging.

While they will still consider late registrants, they must implement a cut-off to allow them time to correct their listings.

Race director Raymund Silot, on the other hand, agrees with Potestas. He said that what happened recently was they allowed
late registrants only because they belonged to running clubs.

The unknown third finisher in the 21K executive men of the Sugbu Marathon last Sunday wearing singlet number 95 was now identified as PO1 Joey Orapa, who belongs to the Regional Training School 7 running club, said Silot.

RTS 7 runners, led by Capt. Ramon Landingin, has confirmed that it was PO1 Orapa.

In his text message Monday night, Silot said “PO1 Orapa was a late registrant. His first registration was under the team, later he opted to join the exec the individual category. We received the entry forms Saturday night according to our database. We gave special considerations to running clubs, but we were very strict to the walk-in runners.”

Organizers received his entry form at around 9 p.m. Saturday, but his number reportedly was not entered into the computer . (NSM)
