More contingents join Sinulog

MORE contingents will be joining this Sunday’s Sinulog grand parade, with 51 dancing contingents and 79 other entries joining the festivity.

The Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) finalized the list of participants yesterday and will hold the final briefing with all choreographers and head of contingents today.

With more contingents joining this year, organizers anticipate a longer parade than last year, when there were only 46 dancing contingents.

Sinulog 2008 Project Director Dolores Suzara said they will be meeting all choreographers today to brief them on the rules in the street dancing and rules for the performance at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The contingents will be briefed on the entrance and exit points at the sports center, the sequence of the contingents in the parade, the allowable number of performers, props men and support staff and the proper use of props.

Each contingent will be allowed to have only 20 support staff and 10 props men.

“For every offense, there will be a penalty to be deducted from their scores that is why we will do a final briefing so they will know all the rules and for them not to have a reason to complain when they get a penalty,” Suzara told Sun.Star Cebu.

At the closing of the registration for the grand parade participants, a total of 51 contingents were listed. Of the number, 22 will compete in the Sinulog-based category and 29 for the free interpretation category. (LCR)
