17 hurt when 2 PUJs collide in pier area

SEVENTEEN people were injured when a public utility jeepney (PUJ) collided with another (PUJ) shortly before noon near Pier 5, Cebu City yesterday.

A report over radio dyAB said there were 32 passengers on board the jeepney from Lapu-Lapu City and 17 of them were injured and taken to Cebu City Medical Center.

Sinulog

The incident occurred at 11:45 a.m. Most of the passengers were reportedly on their way to attend mass at the Basilica del Sto. Niño or the Sinulog Grand Parade at the time figured the incident.

The PUJ with plate number GWV-185 and driven by Jason Reyes turned upside down because of the impact.

The driver of the other jeepney (GBH-291) which was identified in the report as Pedro Sumabong left the scene and surrendered to the Mandaue City Police.

The Cebu City Traffic Division is still conducting a follow-up investigation on the incident. (JST/With Flor V. Querubin of Sun.Star Super-balita)
