8 nabbed for theft during Sinulog

THE Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) arrested five people, four of them women, at the corner of Legazpi and Colon Sts. in Barangay Sto. Nino, Cebu City last Saturday night.

TRS Chief Michael Bastes, in a report submitted to the operations section, identified the suspected thieves as Jomar L. Alvares, 36; Ritdhell S. Sanchez, 21; Juvy T. Montalban, alias Juvy Nunez, 31; and Karen V. Cruz, 20.

They came from Cagayan de Oro City and were staying temporarily in Sitio Kalubihan, Banawa, Cebu City. They were arrested at 9 p.m. Saturday after the team found them allegedly loitering in the area.

IDs

The five failed to show identification cards, so the police took them to the TRS Office at the Camp Sotero Cabahug for questioning.

At the TRS office, the police reportedly found in their possessions documents owned by other people, cellular phones with several SIM packs and a credit card under the name of a man residing in Butuan City.

There is also a check pay to the order of a known lawyer in Cebu.

Because of the evidence confiscated from them, the five were placed under arrest.

Montalban, in an interview at the stockade, denied they were pickpockets.

Sinulog

She said they came to Cebu City to take part in the Sinulog festivities.

Meanwhile, three men from Barangay Tambolilid, Ormoc City were also arrested by the TRS after they were caught victimizing a woman who was watching the Sinulog parade in Barangay Lorega at 11 a.m. yesterday.

TRS arrested Archie Tomada, 25; Fernando Valera,31, and Nick Alquino, 29, with the help of the Barangay Intelligence Network members in the area.

Tomada told reporters they arrived at dawn yesterday on board an inter-island vessel.

He pointed to a certain Allan, who escaped during the operation, as the one who was about to victimize the unidentified woman.

He said they were not aware that Allan is a pickpocket until they arrived in the city.

He said it was his first time to visit Cebu City supposedly to witness the Sinulog. (JST)
