Amid Sinulog revelry, man falls off bridge

A MAN was killed after one of his drinking buddies pushed him off the Marcelo Fernan Bridge yesterday at past 5 p.m.

Samuel Yurag landed on the water near the park on the side of Mandaue City under the bridge.

His drinking buddy, Virgilio Dionson of Sitio San Antonio, Barangay Jagobiao also fell.

A report from the Mandaue City Police Office stated that the two had continued their fist fight in the water until one of them emerged.

PO1 Alvin Itona of the Mandaue City Police Station 5 told Superbalita that both Yurag and Dionson had been drinking with another friend.

Drunk

When they got drunk, they reportedly began arguing until Dionson pushed Yurag.

As Yurag fell, Dionson tried waiting for him to surface. Because he was reportedly intoxicated, he also fell and both began hitting each other.

Dionson was first to swim to shore and tried to run, but police officers detailed at the park caught up with him and placed him under arrest.

Yurag was rushed to the Mandaue City District Hospital but doctors declared him dead.

Itona said that Dionson claimed he did not know Yurag and denied that they were fighting.

“Pero hubog man sab gud ni,” Itona said (He is also drunk). (MEA/DRT of Superbalita)
