Tuesday, January 22, 2008 DPWH receives mini-dump trucks from Province
THE Cebu Provincial Government issued for the first time two mini-dump trucks to the Department of Public Work and Highways (DPWH), which they can use to maintain roads.
This came about after Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia was told of the DPWH third engineering district’s “swift” response to the collapse of the Ilaya Bridge in the southern town of Barili two weeks ago.
Present during the signing of the memorandum of agreement yesterday were Governor Garcia, DPWH officials and officials of the third district.
Garcia said that her brother, Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district) had told her what happened.
Gwen’s challenge
The governor said that she was shocked when he said the DPWH readily responded to the situation so there was nothing to worry about.
“Gikan sa `dugay’ (from slow) public work and highways nahimo nang (to) `dynamic’ public work and highways,” joked the governor, eliciting laughter and applause from the crowd.
Garcia said that this should serve as a challenge to all other engineering districts that want to help the Province.
“We can achieve everything through unity,” she said.
Congressman Garcia also informed his constituents that the Province will help concretize the Ilaya Bridge, which is a national structure.
The governor said that during her first term, she had a hard time implementing projects in the district.
“But now, I believe maka-apas-apas namo sa mga lungsod nga tulin na ang dagan, malapsan pa gani (you will catch up with the other municipalities that have a good road system),” she said.
In response, Asturias Mayor Allan Adlawan told the governor that they will show her that they are worthy of the help she has extended to them.
Adlawan disclosed that they will work hand in hand with the governor and with her brother to serve their constituents more. (KNT)
