Guv to give cash rewards to Alcoy, Carmen, Carcar

FOR giving “honor and pride” to the Province of Cebu, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia will give cash incentives to the Sinulog delegation of the towns of Alcoy and Carmen and Carcar City.

Garcia will hand over the money today, said Jeanette Malinao, Capitol consultant on mass and electronic media information dissemination.

Malinao said Alcoy will receive P100,000; Carmen P50,000; and Carcar P25,000.

Alcoy and Carmen took the grand prize in their respective categories during the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan.

Alcoy’s Siloy Festival also bagged the grand prize in the Sinulog-based category in last Sunday’s Grand Parade while Carmen got the best in costume award and placed third for best in street dancing.

Silaw Culture and Arts of Carcar Central High School placed fifth place in the Sinulog-based category.

Malinao said the giving of incentives is in recognition of the towns’ achievement.

Among Garcia’s thrust in governance is the promotion of cultural heritage. She earlier challenged the municipalities to come up with their own festivals that will promote what their towns have to offer.

The governor also prodded local leaders to use the festivals to bring about socio-economic development.

Malinao said the winning dance of the Alcoy contingent will be one of the highlights in the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo Southern Heritage Trail.

The three-day Suroy-Suroy Sugbo 2008 will start tomorrow. (KNT)
