Saturday, January 26, 2008 Glenn Donaire ‘ready to rumble’
AFTER a boxing layoff of a year and three months, Glenn “The Filipino Bomber” Donaire, brother of International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organization flyweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr., will step back into the ring on Feb. 22 at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino in Reno, Nevada.
Donaire will be fighting in the under card of the Jesse Brinkley and Otis Griffin bout for the vacant WBC-USNBC super middleweight title.
Donaire will be fighting a six-rounder and his opponent is still to be announced.
“The Filipino Bomber” is training at Hayward, California, where his younger brother Nonito Jr. also trained.
His father Nonito Sr. will be flying there today to help in the preparation for his Feb 22 comeback fight and will return the day after the bout to Cebu City to supervise his other son’s training.
Even with a long rest from boxing Donaire is confident and is excited to fight and score a knockout, whoever his opponent will be.
“My son Glenn is very excited for his upcoming fight. He is ready to fight and will KO whoever his opponent is,” father and handler Nonito Donaire Sr. told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.
This is Donaire’s first fight after coming off from a defeat to Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan when the fight was stopped in the sixth round. (EKA)
