Odd-even scheme starts, rerouting reset
HERE are a few reminders to help you cope with the odd-even scheme for taxis and private vehicles that Cebu City’s traffic authorities will start enforcing, on a trial basis, today.
The odd-even scheme will run from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
PUJs will not be rerouted today and tomorrow yet, the City Traffic Operations Management said.
If no major problems are encountered, both the PUJ rerouting and the odd-even scheme for taxis and private vehicles, which will now be from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., will start on Wednesday.
Only two lanes of Gov. Mariano Cuenco Ave. in Banilad will be kept open during the construction period. The rules for when private or public vehicles can use these lanes differ. For private vehicle owners:
If your license plate ends with an even number, you can drive through the construction site on even dates like today, Jan. 28.
Those with plates ending on an odd number must wait for odd dates for their turn.
One possible alternative travel route for private vehicles not allowed to pass through the construction site going to Cebu City is through M.L. Quezon in Mandaue City, turning right to the Cebu North Road, or through Del Pilar St., going to the North Reclamation Area.
If the Cebu Memorial Park road is opened, private vehicles from Cebu City traveling on Gov. Cuenco Ave. can take J. Panis (Old Cadre Road), turn right to Cempark, then out of Cempark’s back gate, straight through the access road leading to A. S. Fortuna (Floremer).
For public utility vehicles like jeepneys:
Jeepneys plying the 13C route will follow their regular routes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The 13B, 62B, 62C and 65B jeepneys, on the other hand, will use an alternative route on those days.
From Talamban, they should turn left to M.L. Quezon Ave., right to H. Cortes St., to F. Cabahug St., and straight to Cardinal Rosales Ave., then to their usual route in going to their destination.
In going back to Talamban, these jeepneys should turn right from Archbishop Reyes Ave. to Juan Luna Ave., left to F. Cabahug, left to H. Cortes, left to M.L. Quezon, right to J. Panis St., then on to Talamban.
The situation is reversed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
On those days, the 13C jeepneys should turn left to M.L. Quezon from Talamban on their way to downtown Cebu City.
Multicabs from Mandaue City:
For multicabs coming from Mandaue City passing on A.S. Fortuna St., they have to turn right to Governor Cuenco Ave., to J. Panis St., then on to Talamban.
From Talamban through J. Panis, they have to turn left to M.L. Quezon, then to their point of origin. Who are exempted:
Emergency vehicles, which include those owned by utility companies and their contractors and school buses, are exempted from the changes in the traffic scheme. (RHM)
