Prompt call aids police in arrest of 'felons'

THREE theft suspects were separately caught in Cebu City over the weekend.

Waterfront Police Station and Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) operatives arrested Michael N. Abenoja and Rolly M. Juvsano, both 21 and of Barangay San Roque, past 8 p.m. last Saturday.

The two had allegedly just robbed at gunpoint 18-year-old Aileen S. Tuñacao of Basak, Mandaue City when the police received a call for assistance.

Tuñacao said she was walking along M.J. Cuenco Ave. when the two suspects approached and demanded for her shoulder bag containing her cell phone worth P1,500, an MP4 player worth P1,300, and P300 cash.

When Abenoja and Juvsano noticed the arriving policemen, they fled towards Logarta St.

After a brief chase, the police team led by SP01 Desiderio Mendaros and PO3 Reynaldo Malazarte collared the two and recovered from them Tuñacao’s belongings.

Although the policemen seized an ice pick, they failed to find the gun used in robbing Tuñacao from either Abenoja or Juvsano.

The two were first taken to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries suffered during the chase.

Hours earlier, Barangay Tisa tanods arrested a theft suspect whom they turned over to the Theft and Robbery Section for custody.

Ringo Rodriguez, 18, of Upper Tisa, was handcuffed around 8 a.m. in a follow-up operation.

He allegedly took the clutch bag of Neriza D. Bacayan, 25, past 5 a.m. at the corner of San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish in San Jose Village, Tisa. (JST)
