Cebuano couple, 2 kids killed in Guam blaze

A FAMILY of four from the Philippines perished in a fire that razed their residence in Chalan Pago, Guam last Sunday.

Xavier Rojas, 28; his wife Jenalyn, 22; and their two children: Jevier, 3, and John Patrick, 1, came from Cebu before settling in Guam, according to a report in Marianas Variety.

Philippine Consul General Bayani Mercado has assured relatives of assistance in repatriating the charred bodies of the Rojas family to Cebu, according to a report in the GMA News website at gmanews.tv.

“We just learned that the family was from the Philippines. We immediately contacted their relatives. We are saddened by this tragedy,” Mercado told Marianas Variety.

According to the report, investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire that razed the family’s two-storey house.

The fire was controlled at 2 a.m. last Sunday. Marianas Variety reported that only the family’s three dogs survived the fire.

The report also said that the consulate is still checking if the Rojas family members have obtained American citizenship and if their relatives in the Philippines would want their bodies shipped to Cebu.

Department of Foreign Affairs 7 Director Angel Espiritu, in a dyLA report, urged relatives of the Rojases to visit their office if they want to seek assistance in the repatriation of the remains of the family. (From GMANews.TV)
