Thursday, January 31, 2008 Suspected drug peddler slain
A DRUG peddling suspect was gunned down in the interior portion of Sitio Lawis in Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.
Fabian Rafols, 30, a barangay resident and a single father of two, died of multiple gunshot wounds—two in the back, one each in his head, nape and temple. He was jobless.
SPO4 Alex Dacua, team leader of the Homicide Section investigators who went to the scene, told Sun.Star Cebu that a grudge or revenge are among the possible motives they are looking into.
Rafols was allegedly involved in previous shooting incidents in the area, but had no prior convictions or a jail record. He was eating rice at 4 p.m. when a lone gunman arrived and shot him at close range.
He died on the spot.
Dacua’s team recovered one slug and four empty shells from a caliber .45.
Two witnesses told the police they saw the attack, but couldn’t reveal more about the gunman other than that he stood about 5’6” tall, wore a black sweatshirt with jeans and a cloth mask. The handle of his gun was brown.
Dacua quoted a relative of Rafols as saying that the man faced two standing warrants of arrest for drugs. Homicide investigators are still trying to find out who could have ordered the attack and why.
Rafols’ body was taken to the St. Francis Funeral Homes.
Since December 2004, Cebu City’s police force has yet to solve majority of over 180 fatal shootings, mostly victimizing convicted felons or those with pending criminal charges. (JST)
