Another Cessna crashlands

ANOTHER Cessna plane made a crash landing in Camotes Island yesterday afternoon.

The Cessna plane owned by Flight Dynamic School of Aeronautics damaged its propeller and front wheels, said SPO2 Nelson Ducay, acting police chief of the San Francisco Police Station.

Ducay said he failed to talk to the lone passenger, only identified as a certain Bikas, an Indian national. He said Bikas didn’t suffer any injuries and had already gone home.

However, he talked to mechanic Marvin Gutier-rez to get initial information.

The plane reportedly left Mactan at 10:45 a.m. and landed at the San Francisco Airport in Barangay North Poblacion at 12:20 p.m.

Ducay said that as the plane landed, it tried to avoid a small puddle in the air strip, which is not asphalted.

As the pilot avoided it he ran over a small mound of limestone which caused the plane to tip forward.

Ducay admitted that they did not know about the crash until a local radio station called them up to inquire about it.

He said he only learned about it at about 4 p.m., prompting him to proceed to the airport to conduct an investigation.

Cebu City Councilor Sylvan Jakosalem revealed, in a text message, that this was the same Cessna plane that he and his flying instructor used when they crashed in Bantayan Island in 1996. Jakosalem said he bruised his knees during the accident.

Yesterday’s incident was the fourth crash involving aircrafts this month.

Last Jan. 24, a Cessna plane crashed in a private resort in Sogod town on its way to Mactan. The pilot was unhurt.

Last Saturday, a Philippine Air Force Huey helicopter crashed in Sitio Mayana, Barangay Biasong, Balamban carrying two pilots and two crew members. They escaped with minor scratches.

The next day, another four-seater Cessna plunged into a fishpond in Barangay Uog, Inabanga, Bohol. (MEA)
