Friday, February 01, 2008 Bogo asks Capitol to asphalt road
IN WHAT could signal the start of reconciliation, the City of Bogo unanimously passed a resolution requesting Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to handle the road asphalting project for a nine-kilometer road.
Bogo Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr. approved the resolution last Dec. 7. It is the first ever resolution from the City of Bogo asking for assistance from the Province.
During her press conference yesterday, Garcia announced she is more than willing to approve the request. Garcia defeated Martinez in the 2004 gubernatorial race.
“Wa’a ko’y gipili sa akong mga proyekto. Mibotar o wa’a, kaalyado o dili bisan tinuod og dili na ni provincial road kay na-city na man sila (Projects are granted, regardless of whether the request comes from allies or not, even if this is no longer a provincial road since they have become a city),” said the governor.
Martinez told Sun.Star Cebu that they considered the resolution a “test” of Garcia’s pronouncements that all those who ask for projects will be given.
“Og iyang ipa-aspalto, thank you. Sukad sa una, wa’a man mi mamalibad, og naay ihatag dawaton. (If she orders the asphalting project, thank you. We have never refused any assistance offered.) I really don’t care for as long as it is for the good of Bogo. If she comes to Bogo and she will invite me, I will come,” said Martinez.
He noted that when Garcia requested for a volleyball team from Bogo, he sent one.
The project in question involves paving the Pandan-Odlot road, part of a major network that interlinks a number of barangays. (KNT)
