Friday, February 01, 2008 Balais: from pool to field
AFTER collecting a silver and a bronze medal in swimming in the fourth Asean Paragames in Thailand last week, paralympian Arnold Balais said that he will now shift from swimming to athletics event.
Balais, an amputee swimmer who won a silver in the 100m fly and a bronze in the 4x50m freestyle relay said that stint will be his last competition in the pool.
He said he will now shift in the athletics event and will likely compete in the field events like shot put, javelin and discuss throw since the country does not have athletes in his category
Balais, who was also a powerlifter, will be starting his training this summer and targets to start competing next year. When he competed in powerlifting, he immediately won in his first competition and won a silver in the first national swimming competition for the differently-abled athletes held here in Cebu in 2000. He is also positive he will also excel in the new field that he chose. (NSM)
