Melligen faces ‘unknown Indon’ Saturday

ASIDE from Z Gorres, another ALA boy, Mark Jason Melligen will have a tough battle this Saturday in the undercard of the Now or Never boxing promotion at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.

Melligen, a rising fighter in the super lightweight category, will see action against Indonesian Tia Koswara.

Melligen is the RP junior welterweight champion and is ranked third in the World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific and second in the Pan Asian Boxing Association.

In 10 rounds, Melligen will face a tough opponent in Koswara who is virtually unknown to Melligen’s camp because they haven’t seen a single fight of this Indonesian boxer.

“We know only little information on Koswara. But he will be a tough opponent because he is ranked second in Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF),” Michael Aldeguer of ALA Gym told Sun.Star Cebu.

When asked about their strategy Aldeguer answered “Melligen is a boxer. He is going to defend and will move around and control the fight”.

Melligen has a record of 9 wins 1 loss with 7 knockouts, while Koswara has 15 wins against 5 losses and 2 draws with 8 wins by knockout.

Also on Saturday, the audience will be treated to a special bout between undefeated Australian William Kickett and Romeo Jackosalem of Davao City

Kickett is said to be the next star in Australia and will be fighting in an eight rounder with Jackosalem, who usually practices at the famed ALA Gym. (EKA)
