Rodriguez turns down offer for PSC post

WHILE others fight for a position in a national sports agency, Danao City councilor Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez shunned it.

A position in the national governing body for sports, the Philippine Sports Commission, opened up following a revamp and Rodriguez was eyed for the position. It was handed to him on a silver platter.

In two separate instances, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo talked to Danao City mayor Nito Durano wanting to tap Rodriguez to become one of the commissioners of the PSC.

This came following the revamp in the PSC and Rodriguez was reportedly supposed to replace an outgoing commissioner.

Rodriguez, however, declined saying that he still needs to accomplish a lot for his constituents in Danao.

“I still have a lot of plans for Danao and so many things in mind that I need to do for Danao sports,” said Rodriguez.

Rodriguez added that he is interested in helping out the national sports organization but as of the moment, he can’t be uprooted from Danao because he feels responsible for the people who voted for him.

Rodriguez was eyed to become one of the officials of PSC because he is a known sports patron. Having been the head of the Danao City Sports Commission for years now, Rodriguez organized quite a number of competitions, local, national and even international in Danao.

He is also a known patron in cycling and is a commissaire of the International Cycling Union.

Had Rodriguez accepted the post, he could have been the second Cebuano commissioner in the PSC. Late last year, Fr. Vic Uy, a Boholano who is an official of the University of San Carlos, became the first commissioner from Cebu. (MCB)
