Cops find ‘Asian-looking’ man hanging from tree branch

AN “Asian-looking man” was found hanging from a 20-foot tree’s branch in a Sitio Kasambagan, Pulangbato, Cebu City mountain before noon yesterday.

A team of Homicide Section investigators and Talamban Police Station personnel rushed to the area after receiving a call for assistance from barangay officials.

The responding policemen were the ones who cut off the blue nylon rope from where the man was dangling.

In a telephone interview, Homicide Section’s PO3 Geoffrey Gutual described the victim to be about six feet tall with an oval-shaped face; had dark short hair; chinito; and wore a light blue polo shirt, black maong pants, and a pair of white rubber shoes.

Discovery

Gutual said they did not find any document that will lead to the man’s identity, and no one from the barangay recognized him.

He said a boy, who was gathering firewood, discovered the body around 11 a.m.

The boy ran to the barangay hall, from which authorities received the call.

Gutual said a resident saw the man drinking liquor alone at 3 p.m. last Friday.

Foul play

They believed the victim died last Saturday yet, as the body was stiff, or already in rigor mortis, when they brought it to the Cebu Rolling Hills in Mandaue City.

The Homicide Section requested for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, and whether foul play was involved.

Gutual said fingerprint samples will also be taken from the man.

No wounds made by bladed weapons or firearms, though, were found during an initial examination by the police.

Gutual said they are not discounting the possibility that the man was a robbery victim because he had no wallet or a cellular phone with him. (JST)
