Saturday, February 09, 2008 Cobras and Jaguars to grind teeth today
IT will be classic battle for collegiate hardcourt supremacy when two tough teams the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars and the Southwestern University Cobras will play for the knockout championship in the resumption of the La Fortuna Cup 2—Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championship this afternoon at the Cebu Coliseum.
During the elimination game last Jan. 25, USJ-R came up with surprise end game blitz to beat the Cobras, 95-85.
USJ-R is the only unbeaten team in the tournament with perfect 4-0 slate while SWU lagged behind with 3-1 card.
In its previous meeting, coach Edito Salacot got the quality game from point guard Jessmar Villahermosa and his usual reliable Luther Luke Justiniani and Lyndon Gudez.
Coach Alejandrito Miego, on the other, hand got the usual performance of his ace scorer Eric Zanoria, but failed to get the usual numbers from Alfred Belande.
Today, both teams are expected to have made the necessary ingredients to win the P15,000 top prize after a week-long respite.
In the opening match, USC Warriors and the Asian College of Technology Cyber Knights will be playing for the third place trophy starting at 2:30 p.m. (RCM)
