Saturday, February 09, 2008 We'll play World Pool: BMPAP
THE newly-organized Billiards Manager and Players Association (BMPAP) had clarified that it will not boycott the 2008 World Pool Championship (WPC) which will be hosted by the Philippines for the third time this November.
Edwin Reyes, one of the managers who helped form the BMPAP, said rumors that their players are not joining the world’s most prestigious tournament are baseless.
Big names such as Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante and Ronnie “Volcano” Alcano are part of the BMPAP.
“What we are going to boycott are the events organized by promoter Yen Makabenta and his Raya Sports, said Reyes.
Reyes said that it is not the Raya Sports that is organizing the WPC, but the United Kingdom-based Matchroom Sports.
“WPC is not a Raya event. It’s am event by the UK-based Matchroom Sports. Raya is only a facilitator,” Reyes said.
The Raya Sports and the Billiards Snookers Congress of the Philippines (BSCP), both led by Makabenta, reportedly are the ones who revealed that the BMPAP will boycott the WPC.
The BMPAP was organized out of discontent from some billiard players on the way the Raya Sports and BSCP have treated them. (ESL of Superbalita)
