AROUND 228 teams are set to play for three days of all-out football in the 5th Thirsty Football festival at the Cebu City Sports Complex on Feb. 15 to 17.

This annual festivity is expanding and will have 14 categories—players eight, 10, Boys 12, 14, 17, 19, Girls 12, 14, 17, 19, Men’s Open, Ladies Open, 36 Above and with two new additional categories, the players 6 and 40-above. The number of teams, comprised of different schools and clubs in the Philippines who registered almost doubled last year’s registered participants of 130 teams.

Last year’s champions like Springdale, M.Lhuillier, Cebu International School, San Carlos City, Foundation University, Don Bosco, University of San Carlos and XP will be back in action to defend their crown.

Players 10 and Men’s Open categories have the most teams with 35 and 37, respectively.

For Players six, eight and 10, it will be five-a-side competition with a 12-minute playing time, while the rest will be seven a side with 15 minutes of playing time.

Divisions will be divided into brackets and will follow a single round-robin. For a category with a single bracket, the top two teams will battle for the championship, while the division with more than one bracket shall have a single round per bracket in the elimination.

This annual football tournament is organized by Neil Montesclaros and Charlie Pages. (EKA)
