Friday, February 15, 2008 Move 5K funds to help persons with disabilities
THE Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (Parm) Visayas announced yesterday that they were able to raise P110,000 from their advocacy run, which was a fund raising activity for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) last December.
Parm Visayas head Dr. Renald Peter Ramiro said that their announcement was delayed since the pledges from their sponsors were not completed right away because of the long holiday.
Ramiro added that apart from the P110,000, another P25,000 in pledges are yet to be collected. This amount will be used for the second edition of the run.
The funds were earned from Parm’s advocacy event, the Move 5K Run, last Dec. 2, in celebration of the International Day of Disabled Persons, which fell on Dec. 3.
The earnings from the marathon will be used as the initial funding for the Parm Critical Illness Fund for Central Visayas.
It will be used to help in the hospitalization expenses of the indigent PWD’s in Cebu and nearby provinces of Central Visayas.
An organization called Aura will be the one that will recommend the persons, who will benefit from the funds raised.
Parm Visayas is composed of 28 Rehabilitation Medicine Specialists (Physiatrists) practicing in the Visayas Region. (NSM)
