Saturday, February 16, 2008 Smart offers scholarship for teachers
Smart Communications Inc. is now accepting applicants for the Smart Mentors program, a specialized training and development program for faculty members of partner schools under the Smart Schools Program (SSP).
SSP is Smart’s community service program that promotes information and communication technology (ICT) in basic education, through partnerships with public schools, its officials and parents-teachers-community associations (PTCAs).
It aims to provide public school teachers with Internet access through the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) group’s wide range of communications solutions, access to online content and teacher training. It is implemented through the Philippine Business for Social Progress, with the support of the Department of Education, Learn.ph Foundation and the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (Sweep).
The Smart Mentors program is open to full-time and bona fide faculty members of the 150 public high schools and 30 public elementary schools that are part of the SSP and the Smart Schools Jr. Program. Applicants must be well-versed in ICT and actively applying or implementing ICT-based programs or projects for the school.
Now on its second-year run, qualified applicants will be given a full scholarship to an 11-month action research course that can earn them a master of arts degree in instructional design and technology.
Application forms can be downloaded from www. smartschools.ph. Deadline for application submission is March 7. (PR)
