Greg says tandem with guv more beneficial to locals

IF CEBU Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez had his way, he would want Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to stay in Cebu.

He said this amid speculations that Garcia is interested in running in the 2010 vice presidential race.

Just recently, tarpaulins of the governor and Sen. Richard Gordon were displayed in Manila before these were brought to Cebu.

“I hope that Gwen will remain in Cebu so we can continue with the projects that we started,” Sanchez told reporters.

“I cannot fill in the shoes of Gwen and the way things are going, she will run unopposed in 2010,” he said on Garcia’s possible reelection as governor.

Sanchez said he is satisfied with his current position, especially with his partnership with Garcia.
Sanchez and Garcia were political enemies in the 2004 elections.

Garcia ran for the first time as governor of the province while Sanchez ran as vice governor of incumbent Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr., a political nemesis of the Garcias.

During their first term, Garcia and Sanchez managed to work together and become allies.

Speculations are strong though that Garcia may run for the second highest position in the country in 2010. At least three rumored presidential candidates have signified their interest in Garcia as runningmate: Gordon, and Senators Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and Manuel Villar.

When tarpaulins bearing the faces of Garcia and Gordon surfaced, the governor’s camp denied this had anything to do with the 2010 elections.

Apparently, the tarpaulins are part of Wow Philippines, the country’s tourism project, which showcases tourist spots in the province. (JGA)
