Monday, February 18, 2008 Group to gather signatures vs. use of contraceptives
A CHURCH-BASED movement will be launching a signature campaign this month to show the people’s objection to all forms of artificial family planning, such as condoms, pills and intrauterine devices.
The Pro-Life and Family Volunteers (PLFV) Inc. issued the announcement through the weekly publication of the Archdiocese of Cebu, Bag-ong Lungsoranon.
In a statement signed by PLFV chairman Antonio Valle, the group said it also opposes abortion and all anti-life, anti-family bills in the House or Senate.
Methods
“Such family planning methods erode the Christian moral and spiritual values and virtues of our people and families. We resolve to organize a signature campaign to manifest the objection of the people to such government programs and practice of using public funds to distribute any gadget or pills identified as means of artificial birth control,” it said.
The results of the signature campaign will be published in local newspapers.
One of the “anti-life” bills, which the local Catholic Church is campaigning against, saying it promotes artificial birth control methods, is the Responsible Parenthood and Population Management Act or House Bill 3773.
Life month
PLFV, along with all church organizations and movements, is celebrating February as National Pro-Life Month.
One of their activities is the holding of a mass and participation in a prayer rally on Feb. 24 in the premises of the Department of Health 7 on Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City.
This rally will be a forum of public opinion, manifesting the participants’ objection to artificial family planning, Valle said.
He added that all those who want to be part of the signature campaign may join the activities. (NRC)
