Saulog makes comeback

JOVI Saulog relive his glory days as he stole the thunder from his contemporary Pepo Rubi in the second leg of the 2008 MS Motosuit Motocross Series yesterday.

Saulog ruled the Expert Division of the “Mayor German Saraña: 2nd Bayawan Petron Spring 4T Invitational Outdoor Motocross Challenge,” in another rain-shortened race in Bayawan City, Oriental Negros, to earn his first 20 points.

“The rain was very heavy and we had to cancel the final heat. All we had completed was the first heat and from there, we based our winners,” said series organizer Lou Ornopia in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

Just like the Series opening leg in Jubay, Lilo-an, Cebu last Jan. 20, the race was cut short to just one heat to prevent any untoward incident.

Saulog, who has not been heard of since 2003, was a surprise in the race and provided more excitement to the series which was ruled by new names.

However, Rubi still leads the Expert Division after finishing third, earning him 15 more points to the 20 he earned last Jan. 20.

Erwin Uypitching placed second in the Expert Class for 17 points.

In the Intermediate division, Kenneth Belleza ruled the category for the 20 points followed by Ted Conde and Vani Abellar.

Dexter Bacabac, on the other hand, topped the Novice Production followed by Tadoy Mercado and Rex Barbaso.

Jose Bacabac won the Beginner’s Production followed by Jon-Jon Flores and Christopher Boss.

Dongkey Sanchez, meanwhile, pulled away in the Local Enduro and Novice Enduro races. (RCM)
