6 armed men rob Internet cafe, clients of P50T in cash, valuables

SIX young men, armed with handguns and bladed weapons, robbed an Internet café yesterday dawn carting away close to P50,000 in cash, cellular phones and other valuables.

Mark I. Jakosalem, the attendant of the Internet café, who tried to fight back, suffered a contusion in the head after one of the robbers hit him with the butt of a firearm.

Cebu City Police Office Director Patrocinio Comendador believes the armed men are members of street hoodlums who belong to a gang in the city.

Theft and Robbery Section (TRS) investigation results showed that the men entered EveryOnline 88.Net Internet Café on Echavez St. in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel at around 2 a.m. yesterday.

Customers

Exsequel D. Trinidad, owner of the Internet café lost his brown wallet containing P4,000 cash, his Nokia cellular phone worth P5,000. The men also brought with them one computer central processing unit (CPU) worth P20,000.

Jakosalem and five customers were stripped of their cellular phones and other valuables.

Jakosalem lost his wristwatch worth P2,000 and his silver ring worth P800.

Customers Rosemarie Gutierrez, Marissa Malazarte, Ernefel Beldad and Jimmy Calledo lost their cellular phones with a total worth of P13,000, while another customer Nodair Jesulga lost her black handbag with a makeup kit inside worth P1,000.

Recognition

Meanwhile, Comendador recommended two traffic enforcers awarded for going beyond the call of duty by arresting two jeepney robbers along S. Osmena St., in Barangay Carreta last Tuesday afternoon.

Traffic enforcers Ronald M. Rivera and Albert S. Ollaban were on board a traffic patrol car when they spotted Joyce G. Pacańa, 23, shouting for help as she had just been victimized by robbery suspects Jaigi Mambiar Comendador, 23, of Barangay Tisa and Rudy Huerte Flores, 23, of Barangay T. Padilla.

The suspects took Pacańa’s pouch with P1,000 cash inside and a cellular phone worth P4,000.

After a brief chase, the traffic enforcers arrested Comendador and Flores and turned them over to the TRS for investigation. (JST)
