Capitol, operators ink pact to improve bus terminal mgt.

A COVENANT signed by Capitol officials and mini-bus operators from southern Cebu aim to end the alleged corrupt practices and unauthorized collection of fees by dispatchers at the South Bus Terminal.

Byron Garcia, Capitol consultant on security, and officers of the Cebu Mini-Bus Operators Association led by its president Nick Villahermosa signed the undertaking and commitment for the betterment of the terminal.

The signing, held at the Capitol Social Hall, was also attended by Carmen Quijano, action officer of South Bus Terminal.

Part of the agreement also provides that bus operators will have to pay double for the terminal fee, from P50 to P100.

Prior to the signing of the covenant, Byron warned that erring dispatchers who will continue collecting fees shall be dealt with accordingly.

Byron appealed to the bus operators to discipline their drivers, conductors and dispatchers to serve the commuters well.

“We will solve your problem one by one. We will act what is good for the South Bus Terminal,” said Byron.

He said Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia is eager to raise the income of the terminal and provide it with good quality service.

The bus operators signed the covenant after a series of meetings, particularly in the increase of terminal fee.

Byron said he hopes that the covenant would mark the start of a new South Bus Terminal, which is free from corruption and erring dispatchers. (GMD)
