Fire eats up 15 homes, leaves P300T in properties damaged

FIFTEEN houses went up in smoke when a fire hit the interior portion of Sitio Alaska Proper, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City yesterday morning.

Cebu City Fire Marshal Esmael Codilla initially pegged the damage to property at P300,000. No one was reported hurt.

The Bureau of Fire Protection received the call for assistance at 6:22 a.m.

The status of the fire was raised to third alarm 13 minutes later so that fire stations from neighboring areas in Metro Cebu would be able to help, as most of the houses in the area were made of light materials and access roads were narrow.

The Cebu Filipino-Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation also arrived to help. The fire was placed under control 20 minutes later.

Initial investigation showed that the fire started at the ceiling of a one-story house owned by Adolfo Edano but occupied by Dante Managaytay.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The fire victims are temporarily sheltered in a nearby sports center. (JST)
