Police chief denies being negligent

TALISAY City Police Station Chief Romeo Perigo visited Vice Mayor Lani Abarquez’s office last week to deny the police’s inaction on a karaoke bar that allegedly features “live shows.”

Abarquez told Sun.Star Cebu that Perigo appeared in her office past 9 a.m. with a police officer, who reportedly conducted surveillance on the karaoke joint.

However, the vice mayor was surprised by Perigo’s claim that the latter’s men erred in conducting a surveillance operation.

Instead of holding a stake-out in Barangay San Isidro, police operatives reportedly conducted surveillance instead on another karaoke bar in San Roque, said Abarquez.

Official trip

Abarquez said she gave the name and location of the karaoke bar when she personally visited Perigo’s office before she left for an official trip to The Netherlands two weeks ago.

She asked Perigo to look into the operation of the karaoke bar following persistent complaints that it reportedly shows nude dancers from 8 p.m. until early dawn.

Disappointed

When she returned home last week, Abarquez admitted she got disappointed by the alleged inaction of Perigo.

Abarquez has been acting as mayor effective Tuesday in the absence of Mayor Socrates Fernandez who went on a week-long pilgrimage to the Holy Land in Israel.

The mayor is scheduled to return to the country on Feb. 29.

Last month, City Hall enforced a 10 p.m. curfew on minors amid reports that teenagers offer sexual services in Barangay Poblacion.

Apart from implementing the curfew, authorities also conducted a saturation drive that led to the arrest of minors and rugby boys. (GC)
