Power shocks kill man, hurt 4

ONE person was killed while four others suffered electric shocks in Barangay Talavera, Toledo City Friday morning after the antenna they were trying to install touched a transmission line.

John Daryll Basalo, 19, was declared dead on arrival at the Toledo City District Hospital.

Joel Deparine Guillano, 34, Dianara Bensing Guillano, 12, Jonathan Villahermosa Gerladez, 36, and Rosemarie Guillano Mago were transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.

All five were trying to install a 12-meter antenna beside Mago’s store in Purok 2.

The local police, the engineer’s office, the Cebu Electric Cooperative III and the Balamban Enerzone investigated the incident.

Fatal touch

At the scene were SPO1 Praxillo Albiso, who also brought along personnel from the electrical section of the engineer’s office, Engineer Edgardo Hernaiz of Cebeco III and Engineer Mario Cabunilas of Balamban Enerzone.

Their investigation revealed that “tube elements” of the antenna had touched the transmission line owned by the Balamban Enerzone.

The transmission line is located along the highway in Barangay Talavera.

In September 2005, a father and his two sons were killed in Balamban, Cebu when they tried to put up an antenna to get clearer reception on their new TV set.

A grounded main line touched the roof of their neighbor’s house, which was right next to their roof.

In September 2003, a businessman was electrocuted while his helper was injured after the antenna they wanted to transfer touched a main line of the Visayan Electric Co.

In September 2002, a four-year-old girl who touched a TV antenna pipe was electrocuted in Lapu-Lapu City. (MEA)
