Tuesday, February 26, 2008 Drawing their little worlds By Ritchie Landis Doner Quijano
THE “Drowing-Drowing” concept was started as a yearly project of the art group, Pusod.
Now on it’s sixth series, the show is geared as a preparatory fund-raising project to drum up support for the upcoming event that will gather artists from all over the Visayas to Cebu later this year. The event? It’s the Visayan Islands Visual Artists Association Exhibit and Conference (Vivaa-Excon).
The working theme for the exhibit is “Planeta” (planet) and is open to all artists interested.
Acceptable art works should be on paper and the artist’s have the discretion to use any kind of medium.
Paper works or the use of paper makes the artworks consistent to our very notion of what a drawing is. And it brings a renewed interest in the fun and joys of revisiting the basic skill of drawing on paper. Parties may enter only up to the maximum of three artworks.
Expect to see artworks by new and aspiring young artists who will most likely be students from two fine arts campuses in Cebu. But the seasoned artists will not be absent for sure. So this exhibition will be a show that will expose the sensibilities of the old and the new schools.
“Planeta” is ongoing at the Little Gallery of the University of the Philippines campus in Lahug. It is open to the public during school hours.
