4 men kill jeepney driver, rob couple

FOUR men killed a jeepney driver in Minglanilla, Cebu Sunday night after the latter refused to give them change to buy cigarettes.

They also ran off with his earnings worth P600.

An hour later, the same group allegedly robbed a couple in another barangay.

Jimmy Alianit, 28, was declared dead at the Minglanilla District Hospital after suffering stab wounds in the left side of his chest and in both arms.

He had tried to ward off four men who declared a robbery inside his passenger multicab at 10:30 p.m.

Senior Insp. Romeo Santander of the Minglanilla Police Station said Alianit’s multicab was full of passengers from Cebu City.

With only a few left inside, the four men suddenly asked him if he could spare them some change to buy cigarettes.

Alianit was alone in the front seat while the rest of the passengers were at the back.

Alianit refused and continued driving.

One of the men pulled out a knife and declared a holdup.

The knife did not scare Alianit and he resisted.

This led to a struggle inside the multicab until they managed to stab him.

They ran away with his earnings.

Alianit was taken to the hospital but did not make it.

Santander believes the same group was behind another robbery in Barangay Tunghaan about an hour later.

Jessie Pation, 25, and his girlfriend were walking towards nearby Barangay Balirong in the City of Naga when four men approached them and declared a holdup.

This time, though, Pation did not resist and readily gave up his cellular phone worth P4,500 and his wallet containing P1,000 cash.

Santander said they are eyeing a certain Momon, who hails from Surigao, as one of the culprits.

He said they may also arrest two other men whom they have been closely following. (MEA)
