Multicab overturns in Talisay; 9 passengers injured

A CEBU City-bound multicab flipped yesterday while speeding along the highway near a gas station in Barangay Lawaan 3, Talisay City, injuring its driver and nine passengers.

PO2 Amelito Hornales said that driver Glenn Labao, 25, of Inayagan, City of Naga, and passenger Joan Badayos, who was in the front seat, suffered serious injuries in the head and body.

Overtake

The rest of the multicab passengers also sustained injuries in the different parts of their bodies. Two of them were 12-year-old Gerald Abalo, and Rodolfo Adlawan, 7, both of Talisay City.

Hornales said the mishap happened moments after the multicab tried to overtake a tangkal-tangkal, a motorcycle with a cargo hold.

It suddenly made a left turn towards the South Central Square around 7:30 a.m.

Labao reportedly stepped on the gas to pick up speed but he had to swerve back to his lane to avoid an oncoming cargo truck.

Control

However, the driver reportedly failed to control the multicab that it careened off the highway, turned turtle and finally slammed into an electric post near the Shell gasoline station, Hornales said.

The site has been considered prone to vehicular accidents especially during rush hours because of speeding south and northbound vehicles.

Hornales said most of the injured victims, including the driver, were rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital. (GC)
