Sunday, March 02, 2008 Festin-Baybay: Get the message? By Tita Dulce Festin-Baybay That's right!
THAT’S right, Kidsters! I am asking you this important question, “Did you get the message?”
Do you know why I am asking this? You see, as we grow up, it is important that we learn to how understand one another. When your Mama and Papa, for example, asks you to be an obedient child, do you know what they mean by this? Did you get their message?
Of course, the answer to the question of whether you are an obedient child or not is definitely, yes! You are an obedient child. But are we telling the truth when we say yes to this question? Did we really get their message?
When they ask us if we are an obedient daughter or son, they are asking if you are doing everything that they expect you to do. For example, when you eat your food, when you do your homework, when you fix your closet... even if they do not tell you to do these things, these are things they expect you to do on your own.
That is actually their message. To be an obedient child is to do these things without being told. It is not just the question they are asking for the present moment.
So, Kidsters, do you now get the message? Getting the message, understanding what it really means, is one way of being able to communicate or connect with others around us. An important requirement in being able to communicate, or being able to give and take in messages, is this. You should know also how to listen. And listen very very well.
Do you notice that when everybody is talking and nobody is listening, no message is received or understood by anyone? That’s right, Kidsters! There is no one listening when everybody is talking. So what is the point of talking all at the same time?
It is just a waste of time. And most of all, no one gets the message of the other. After reading this, do you now get my message?
